Places in China: Jiangxi Province
This subtropical province of China has a monsoon climate and nice weather most of the time. The winters seldom reach the freezing point while summers usually top off at thirty-one degrees Celsius (89 F).
The people of the province are almost entirely Han Chinese; only less than one percent are of the She, Hui, Yao and Miao ethnic groups. There are around 267 persons per square kilometre on average. The 166,000 square kilometre land area supports forty million inhabitants.
Visits to the Lushan Mountains offer relief from the summer heat. The Poyang Lake, the largest freshwater lake in China also offers summer recreation options for keeping cool.
The province is a large producer of grain for China. Forests also cover more than half of the province. Other income for Jiangxi includes the porcelain factories in the city of Jingdezhen. This city has produced high-quality porcelain since around 220 BC. During the Ming Dynasty, the well-known blue and white porcelain tableware became a staple around the world. There are many pottery factories which visitors can visit any time they are in that city.
A visit to the Lushan mountain area with its ninety or more peaks is an artist's delight as well as offering an opportunity to see interesting rock formations, waterfalls, misty mountain vistas, temples and colonial villas. The area is where Mao Zedong, Chiang Kai-Shek and other famous Chinese leaders have spent time.
Many revolutionary landmarks are found at areas around Jinggangshan, the cradle of the Chinese Revolution. Since 1927, this area has had much to do with Chinese history.
Of course, a visit to the provincial capital of Nanchang affords many attractions that visitors will want to experience. The city is in the northern part of the province, just south of the freshwater Poyang Hu.
Plains in the centre of the province are surrounded by various mountain peaks around the edges. Although not the richest in finances among China's provinces, Jiangxi is rich in attractions.
